While 65% of Americans own their homes, only 1% of people with disabilities have achieved this goal.
The Home of Your Own Program works to overcome this disparity. Co-op Initiatives coordinates the Program, supporting people in the home buying process, working to educate real estate agents and attorneys, and linking people with mortgage financing and down payment resources.
Key Features of Home of Your Own:
Education and support provided to all buyers
Access to 30 year mortgages at 6%
Assistance available for down payment and closing costs
Home ownership has long been part of the American Dream. For people with disabilities, the benefits are many, including control, choice, access to equity, security, privacy, responsibility, and the status that homeownership brings.
From 1995 to 2000, 31 Connecticut households have purchased homes through the Program.
